Can you help at the Acorn?

0 25

As you may know, on August Bank Holiday Monday (29th) we are delighted to be holding our premier ‘Open’ competition of the year, the GAC Acorn Tournament -back to it’s full, pre-Covid format!

This is a UK Record Status shoot and we are expecting to welcome over 100 archers from clubs across the South East and further afield as well as some of our own members to create what is both a great spectacle and an important fundraiser for the Club plus a great sign of the return to normality in archery.

As ever, there are a range of jobs that need to be done to prepare for, put on and clear up a tournament like this and if you could spare just a little time to help, we would be really grateful!

We have tried to break the tasks down to be manageable in terms of time and effort, and if lots of you can commit to do at least one thing, then it will be a breeze!

The tasks and times include:

SUNDAY 28th AUGUST
1. – 4.00-6.00pm Marking Out Field

– Put out guide strings for Tent, Wait, Shoot, 3m and distance lines
– Mark white lines and cross-hatch ‘no tent’ areas

2. Field crew during the day

Afternoon shift: 12.30 – 4.00pm
– Helping find lost arrows, replacing target faces, assisting archers is required
– Reset targets at change of distance

4. Kitchen
Morning shift: 9.00am – 1.00pm
Afternoon shift: 1.00 – 5.00pm
– Assist with selling teas and coffees and cakes etc
– Washing up and tidying club house

5. End of the day: – 4.00 – 6.00
– Collect score boards
– Remove target faces and pins and put away
– Collect up shooting line numbers and signs and pack away
– Take down gazebo and put away
– Pack up GAC shelters and flags
– Collect up waste bins, and put away, bag up all rubbish

It would be brilliant if you could let us know in advance if you can help, and which task(s) you would be able to do, by adding your name to our GAC Acorn Volunteer SignUp

Alternatively, please email the Club Chair, Simon de Kretser or Tournament Organiser Richard Fitzgerald:

Simon de Kretser – chair@guildfordarcheryclub.co.uk
Richard Fitzgerald – tournament@guildfordarcheryclub.co.uk

If you aren’t sure about when and what you can do, then just turn up on the day(s) when you have the time and pitch in!

Thanks in advance!
