A very successful few weeks at GAC!

Junior Acorn: 25th June
A fabulous day of archery and fun for all of the young archers that came to GAC to take part in this year’s Junior Acorn. Over 50 visitors were shooting the selection of Western rounds, accompanied by music and MC’ing by Steve Tully and Jo Stranks.

The shooting was of course serious, but the atmosphere was all fun, with the ‘Shrek’ theme being evident everywhere, especially Colin Levy’s costume!

At lunchtime there was a team game of knocking Shrek characters from the battlements of a magnificent castle (build by John Davis) using bean bags ????

There were many Guildford juniors shooting and some medal success – congratulations to all of you, whether you won or not.

HUGE THANKS to the Guildford members who helped to set out the field on the Friday evening, and throughout the day on the Saturday – these events simply couldn’t happen without your help – and a special mention for Jo Stranks and Lauren Levy who did all the planning and organisation and Richard Fitzgerald who managed the entries and results!

Burgess & Hill: 3rd July

A modest turn out for this club trophy shoot of 12-dozen WA and Metric rounds, but the weather was good and everyone had a great time. Congratulations to the trophy winners: Sharon Wolf and Kevin Molloy!

Junior National Outdoor Championships: 3rd and 4th July
– Holly Linfield and Meghan Robertson
2 of our GAC Juniors made the long trip to Lilleshall on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of July, to shoot with the best junior archers  in the country. Both had a great time, and did very well, with Meghan finishing 3rd and Holly 7th in the first days WA1440 round and Holly 3rd and Meghan 4th on the second days Bristol 2 round.

Well done both of you – great shooting!

Para Archery European Cup Leg 1: 2nd-10th July

Forest of Bere Bowmen: 3rd July – Tony Fry, Matt Sharpe, Stuart Edwards, Sudip Rai
Long weekend competing down at the Forest of Bere Bowman this weekend. On the Saturday we were shooting double WA720 and WA50s for bare bow. A long hot days shooting resulted in a finishing score on 1090 for me, an improvement on the last time I shot this double round by about 50 points. Whilst not finishing in the top three, this will help my national ranking points. On the Sunday I was joined by Matt, Sudip and Stuart for a 1440. Once again the weather was hot and the day long but it was a successful day for Guildford. Matt came first in the mens recurve and took second place in the bare bow with a score of 884. Not only did Guildford medal, but Matt obtained a Master Bowman score, and I managed to secure my third for this season, meaning I retain the MB classification. A great days shooting for all.

Tony’s gong!

June Selby results
As a club, we take part in a ‘postal’ archery league throughout the summer. Every member of the club is invited to shoot the specified round at least once a month. This could be anytime, but it’s nice if you can shoot it with others, perhaps on a Sunday morning or a summer evening?

The rounds are:
Recurve, bare bow and compound: Short metric
(3doz@ 50metres and 3doz at 30metres, all on an 80CM target face with Metric scoring)
Longbow: national
(4doz@60yards and 2 doz@50yards all on a full size target face with Imperial scoring)

It’s a great way to get into scoring rounds and shooting with other members – why not give it a go in July?

The June scores can be seen here
