GAC Away-Team success!
GAC archers have been gaining some great success at away tournaments over the last few weeks:
Richmond Pagoda Shoot: 24th April
13 GAC members enjoyed this very popular shoot making a very welcome return after a 2 year pandemic-gap. A mix of Windsor and Albion rounds were shot and there was Guildford success in the competitions and the raffle!
Albion Lady Recurve Gold – Jo Stranks
Windsor Lady Recurve Silver – Kirsty Young
Team Silver – Guildford: Stuart Edwards, Sudip Rai, Kirsty Young, Stephen Tully
Crystal Palace Bowmen: 24th April
2 Guildford members went to shoot the Crystal Palace Bowmen 48th Open Tournament at The Old Dunstonian’s Sports Club for the start of a busy outdoor competition season. When we arrived it looked like it would be pleasant sunny conditions, but it ended up being a tricky day due to strong gusty winds. Unfortunately this is not ideal conditions when trying to chase Master Bowman qualifying scores!
There was a really good turnout, with 91 archers taking part. It was also great to catch up with some familiar faces and everyone was very friendly.
After the practice end, we began the York round, with the wind making the 6 dozen at 100yds especially tricky. I managed to get through the distance and while not having the best time in the wind could at least still achieve Master Bowman with a good 80 and 60yds.
Unfortunately the wind would not let up, and I ended on a score of 1044 (21 points shy of Master Bowman). Considering the conditions, I was still pleased with the score and managed to place 1st in the Men’s Recurve category, which is promising for the rest of the season.
I hope to see many more Guildford archers join in with future tournaments, which are always good fun and everyone is very welcoming. Feel free to chat to me or the other regular competition archers if you are interested in tournament shooting.
