A message from GAC Chair

Dear GAC members

I do hope that you are all safe and well during this unprecedented time.

As someone who was already working from home, the restrictions on our daily lives have not been too hard to incorporate into my daily routine, but I am sure that many of you are having to have a crash-course in how to work efficiently from the spare bedroom or kitchen table as well as getting to grips with the plethora of virtual meeting platforms.

For those who have unfortunately had to be furloughed (a word I hadn’t heard until recently) I fervently hope that this will all be over soon and you can return to normal.

If you are still at work and particularly on the front line of the health services, or food distribution, I am sure that all of the club will join me in saying how grateful we are for all of your efforts!

We have all had to to reassess our priorities and I am guessing that archery may have been low on your list of things to deal with over the last week or so, However, as we settle into this hopefully temporary ‘new normal’, I can’t be the only one who is starting to miss the pleasure of shooting at our magnificent club and catching up friends as the Spring weather starts to improve and days get longer.

I firmly believe that archery should be considered an important contributor to our collective physical and mental wellbeing when we need it most, and is one of the activities that can still be undertaken with the required 2metres of space. As soon as the government advice on isolation and social gatherings changes, we will be reviewing and hopefully reopening the range, even if with the ever present ‘Social Distancing’ rules in place.

In the mean time, your committee and coaching team will try and provide you with ideas for physical and mental exercises that might help to keep you archery fit, as well as suggestions for equipment maintenance and fettling that could help to keep your mind off the lack of archery!

I would love to hear if you are keeping in touch with each other via social media, and please don’t forget the GAC Facebook and Twitter pages are there for you to both find information, but also to post questions, share ideas, or just chat about archery or anything at all.

Please feel free to email me if you have any ideas for things that your fellow members might like to see or could do during their enforced detainment!

I look forward shooting with you during a long and hot summer of archery once this has all blown over!

Keep Safe.

Simon
