Shooting safely in high winds

0 3

Once again, gale force winds are predicated by the Met Office for this coming weekend.  We are not planning to close the range, but will decide on each day if it is safe to shoot.

If you are coming down and wish to shoot in high winds, here are a few things to consider:

  • Bosses need to be securely pegged down.  This stops them falling over with your arrows embedded into them, or moving around the range.  You don’t want your 50 yard target becoming 55….60…65…. or even creeping closer to you!
  • Make sure that boss covers are secured so they don’t suddenly close on you.
  • Arrows may be blown off course resulting in more hunting around the field or potential damage to them if you hit the wood of the stands.
  • Scopes on stands may blow over, causing them damage.
  • If shooting on the left hand side of the range, be aware of the public with the potential for arrows going off-course.

Be safe!
