A great GAC day out at the Surrey Field Championships!

Early start on Sunday 3rd November for the last shoot of the 2019 outdoor season and the Surrey field archery champs at High Ashurst on Box Hill.

Perfect autumn day, not too cold, Great turnout from Guildford with 6 archers shooting this year.

An interesting course prepared with some new shots and using the cross slopes adding to the challenge.  The National animal round is a tricky round as it is unmarked meaning the archers need to estimate the distance of each shot.  The scoring system with the unusual animal target faces make a bit of an “all or nothing “ round.

We shot the 16 target course (2arrows per target) once before lunch.  Then another loop of the 16 targets in the afternoon with the pegs changed during the lunch period.

Guildford won 3 trophies and then 2 further archers winning medals.

Gent Compound:  Malcolm Rees (almost a clean round and a pb) winning the County Champs for another year. Mike Evans 4th in county.

Lady compound U15: Lara Evans 1st place.

Lady Barebow:  Malin Schulz    winning county champs for 2nd year.

Gent Recurve:  Matt Sharpe county 2nd, Richard FitzGerald 3rd county.

All in all a really enjoyable day and looking forward to some more field next year.
