Isle of Wight Trip

0 5

Last weekend a small but enthusiastic group of Guildford archers ventured south to the Isle of Wight for two days of fellowship and friendly competition with Wight Bowmen.

Based near to Ryde in the northeast of the island, Wight Bowmen have over 70 members and shoot on a field with commanding views across the Solent. The club is based next to the Appley Manor Hotel.

Eight representatives from Guildford made the journey, including Amy Bettis who has only been in the club for 18 months.

Following some sight-seeing and practice (for the more dedicated amongst us) on Saturday afternoon, we joined our friends from Wight Bowmen for dinner in the evening.
On Sunday we competed in Albion and Windsor rounds and enjoyed a beautify summers day of archery and friendship.

The day finished with a welcome (and plentiful) buffet tea, an exchange of gifts and medal awards.

Amy (from GAC) was awarded a medal for her success in the Windsor round. Well done to her.

We would like to thank our hosts for their kind hospitality – especially Laura Faulkner from WB who helped us with all the arrangements. We look forward to seeing her and other members of Wight Bowmen in the near future.

The pictures below show Steve, Kevin, Sue, Andy and Eleanor at the Ryde Castle Hotel, Amy receiving her medal from Laura Faulkner and a group photo with the amazing view of the Solent in the background.
