Due to a double booking at Charterhouse school, we have had to move the clout shoot to:

SUMMER PARTY
In the absence of a current Social Secretary (could YOU do the job?) it has not been possible to organise the Summer Party in time for the original date of next Saturday. However, the committee don’t want to cancel it altogether, so we have decided to combine a late summer party with the scheduled Head to Head shoot, to provide an afternoon of competitive and fun archery, with a social get together and barbecue. The new (Late) Summer Party Date will be:
Sunday 1st September

GAC ANNUAL CLOUT
Clout is a form of archery in which archers shoot arrows at a flag (known as “the Clout”) from a relatively long distance and score points depending on how close each arrow lands to the flag.

Scoring zones are defined by maximum radii from the flag pole. Each arrow scores points depending on which scoring zone it enters the ground in. An arrow embedded in the flag pole is counted as being in the highest scoring zone. If an arrow is lying on the ground, it is considered to be in the scoring zone in which its point lies.

A rope marked with the radii of the scoring zones is attached to the flag pole and swept around it to determine which arrows are in which zones.

A designated person collects the arrows in each zone, sorts them into sets, and lays them on the ground. Each archer in turn points to his or her arrows and calls out the scores in descending order.

A single clout round consists of three dozen arrows, shot in ends of 6 arrows, and we will be shooting a double clout round, in which a total of six dozen arrows is shot.

It’s in the grounds of Charterhouse School, Hurtmore Road, Godalming Please click here for Google map.  We use their car park (on Queen’s drive) and cross a pedestrian road bridge to a large plating field on the other side of Charterhouse Road, bounded by trees.  It all starts at 18:30. Great fun and definitely not to be missed.

FLAG LEG 2
This will be held at Alton and FourMarks Archery Club and is always a great day out and Alton and FourMarks are excellent hosts.

The rounds will be an Albion for seniors (3 dozen each at 80, 60 and 50yards) and a variety of Windsor rounds for Juniors and Novices (3dozen each at 3 distances, with maximum varying between 60 and 20 yards depending on the round you prefer)

The scoring will be handicapped which means that this is not just for the ‘best’ archers in the club and anyone who shoots as well as or better than they normally do can contribute a useful score for the team. If you don’t know or don’t understand the handicap system, this won’t matter, it will all be sorted out for you – you just need to come an shoot! (but I am more than happy to explain it for you if you would like!)

The FLAG is a 2-leg competition between ourselves, Woking, Farnham and Alton and FourMarks Archery Clubs and we are the current trophy holders (you can see the trophy in the cabinet in the club house) and we are in second after the first leg for the Albion and in the lead for the Junior trophies!

This is a really low key, friendly event that is perfect as your first ‘away’ shoot where the emphasis is definitely on fun and meeting new friends from local clubs.

There is no cost, and Alton And FurMarks will provide a light tea after the shooting – I have already had a few people tell me they would like to go and would like us to enter at least 20 members, so please could you put your name on the DoodlePoll here, or drop me an email?

SUMMER PARTY
The GAC Summer Party will be between 6pm and 9pm directly after the GAC Head to Head competition, the clubhouse will be host to an evening of food, drink, music, and games!

There is no charge for the summer party this year, but we are doing a bring-your-own for alcoholic drinks  (we’ll provide the usual food, soft drinks, tea, and coffee). The club bows will be available if you want to take part in the fun and games – or you can just come along and enjoy the company!
