Nagarkoti, Tamang win archery gold medals

Kathmandu, June 29

Tribhuvan Army Club archers Roshan Nagarkoti and Aisha Tamang won the Recurve Individual section gold medals in the Laxman Kumar Shrestha Memorial sixth Indoor National Archery Championship here at the NSC covered hall today.

Nagarkoti defeated Ashim Sherchan of Kaski 6-0 in the men’s section final, while Khum Kumal of TAC finished third with a 7-3 victory over Prem Prasad Pun of Nepal Police Club. In women’s section, Tamang defeated her TAC teammate Mitra Rai 6-2 to finish first, whereas Bishnu Maya Limbu registered a 6-4 victory over Rashmi Darlami in the all-Kaski third-place match.

In team event, TAC beat Nepal Magar Samaj 6-2 to win the gold medal, while Kaski finished third with a 6-4 victory over Nepal Police Club.

In Compound section, Prasada Acharya of The Best Archery won the gold medal with a 139- 131 victory over Sanatan Malla of Rajdhani. Ramesh Bhattachan of Thasang Sports Club finished third after beating Kaski’s Yogendra Sherchan 136-132.

Raj Kumar Chhantya of Annapurna Archery Club won the men’s Standard Individual section gold medal with a 6-0 victory over Suman Gurung, while Pranjal Rai of The Best Archery came third beating Raju Chhantyal of Himalayan Bhote Club 6-0. Annapurna Archery Club defeated TAC 6-4 in the team event final, while Thasang Sports Club finished third with a 6-2 victory over Himalayan Bhote.

In women’s Standard Individual category, Anusha Gurung finished first beating Ashna Lama of The Best Archery 7-3, while Kalpana Adhikari was third with a 6-4 victory over her TAC teammate Manju Bajgai.

Likewise, Anusha Gurung and Raj Kumar Chhantyal of Annapurna won Standard Mix Team event gold medal beating Ashna Lama of Pranjal Rai of The Best Archery 6-4. TAC’s Manju Bajgai and Kamal Dani came third with a 6-0 victory over APF archers Gita Khatri and Laxuman Tamang.

A total of 66 archers — 44 men and 19 women — took part in the two-day tournament organised by Nepal Archery Association in memory of its president Laxman Kumar Shrestha.

Vice-president of Nepal Olympic Committee Purendra Bikram Lakhe, National Institute of Sports Department Director Arjun BK, National Team Preparation Director Mahendra Rai and President of Nepal Archery Association Deepak Gurung handed over the prizes to the winners.
