Can you help the club to become more social?
As a club, I am confident that we provide all the facilities and opportunities to shoot that our members want, but GAC is not exclusively about the archery, we are also a social organisation, and where possible, we like to provide opportunities for members to get together and enjoy each others company, sometimes purely social, and sometimes centred around trying a new bow style or shooting discipline.
However, we don’t currently have anyone to coordinate these events at the moment, so they are missing from the shooting diary.
Officially, the role of Social Secretary is a committee position, but this probably makes it sounds like a more involved role than it needs to be, it is relatively straightforward and needn’t be too onerous or time consuming, and primarily consists of;
A) Deciding on approximately one day a month for a social event (usually a Sunday) and liaise with webmaster (currently Simon de Kretser) to get dates added to the shooting diary.
B) Deciding on what activity – either a purely social event or something based around one of our set of established archery activities;
– Hot Cross Bub Shoot
– Wand Shoot,
– Field Archery Taster,
– Longbow Taster,
– Jelly Bow Clout
– Summer Party
– Halloween Party
C) On the day, ensure some light refreshments are available (usually simply cake and tea/coffee) using funds provided by the Treasurer.
Detailed instructions for set up and running these are all available, and there are always people willing to help with field set up, making teas/coffees and providing any expertise or advice in particular bow type or shooting style.
This role is very much one of organiser/facilitator – you are not expected to do everything, to even to attend every event!
Could you take this on for the club?
If taking on the whole thing seems a bit daunting, would you be able to take on just one event?
I know that the members appreciate these events and that they are important for our sense of community, so the club would be very grateful if we can get these back into the diary!
If you would like to volunteer for some or all of the role or have any questions, please contact:
