2019 AZ State Master’s Championships Recap

0 23

Papago Archery was honored to host the 3rd annual AZ State Masters Championships this weekend and welcomed 39 archers to the shooting line. The archers shot either barebow, compound or recurve bows and scored a 900 round at 60/50/40 meter distances.

The Compound Master 50 Men & Recurve Master 50 Men divisions had the most competitors followed closely by the Compound Master 60 Men.

The highest score of the tournament was shot by Larry Butterfield in the Compound Master 60 division with an impressive 881! Wow!
The top score of the Barebow archers was shot by Ron Shinn with a 675 in the Master 60 division and top Recurve score was an 808 by Gary Yamaguchi in the Master 60 division! The top female score of the event was shot by Caytie Belzner with an 823 in the Compound Master 50 division.

In addition, there were 20 new state records broken & 1 tied among all the divisions. No doubt the Masters archers get better with age!

We want to thank all of the archers that participated, the spectators that came to cheer them on, the judges – Bud Lord & Kristy Wapniarski –  that kept everyone safe, our photographer – Scott Sefranka- for capturing the memories and the volunteers  – Lester Chin, Heather Gosnell, Ian Wolfersteig, Ron Shinn, Jocelyn Horton, Saleh Yousefi and Jorge Varona – that set up the range, helped with resets,  acted as archer’s agents, did scoring/awards and made sure that everything was put away.  Also, a big thank you to Papago’s Tournament Director – Nick Wapniarski – for organizing the event, designing the awards & overseeing the execution.
