Did You Know: Spotted Salamander Embryos

PHOTO - Spotted salamander embryos have a symbiotic relationship with the green algae Oophila amblystomatis. The jelly coating prevents the eggs from drying out, but inhibits oxygen diffusion, required for embryo development. The alga photosynthesize and produce oxygen in the jelly.
