5 Top Tandem Skydiving Tips

Ready to get in the air with your first tandem skydive? Before you head to the dropzone, give these recommended tandem skydiving tips a read. Trust us, following these top 5 tandem skydiving tips can help you improve your overall experience and ensure you get the most out of your latest adventure.

1. Watch the Weather

The sky is our playground, and in the sky, Mother Nature rules the roost! Skydiving is a sport entirely dependent upon the weather, and admittedly, at times, this can be rather inconvenient.

To conduct jump operations, we need generally clear skies. High winds, low clouds, and rain will all put the kibosh on jumping. So, the first tandem skydiving tip on our list is to watch the weather! While the forecast isn’t always reliable, it doesn’t hurt to check ahead of time before you schedule your skydive. Even then, the weather can still turn on a dime. Often, in skydiving, you will have to put your patience to the test and wait until the weather cooperates.

If the weather on the day of your jump looks suspect, give the dropzone a call. Typically, they will have access to aviation forecasts and can give you a more accurate description of what the day may hold. Keep in mind, though, no one can completely predict the weather.

2. Buy the Video

There’s nothing wrong with being frugal, but it’s important to know when it pays to spend a little extra. Skydiving is an incredible experience, and many people deem their skydiving excursion to be a one-and-done, cross it off the bucket list kind of affair. Even if you plan on pursuing your license, there is nothing like your first skydive. This is why our second tandem skydiving tip is to buy the video.

Your first skydive is an experience you will want to relive for years to come. Spend the extra cash on capturing your jump on film, and you won’t regret it.

3. Dress For Success

Even those of us who aren’t blessed with a fashion sense, know that certain activities require certain ensembles. Our third tandem skydiving tip is to dress for success!

Now, there’s no need to go putting on the ritz with your skydiving outfit. Instead, you’ll want to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to have a full range of motion. Skydiving is not an activity where you want to feel constrained, and so, clothing should not be overly restrictive. However, even with that said, you do not want to wear overly loose items on a skydive either. Clothing for skydiving should be well-fitted. Typically, athleisure wear makes for optimal skydiving attire.

4. Dip Your Toes In

How do you know if skydiving is for you? Well, at Paraclete XP, we are able to offer our guests a unique opportunity. Mere minutes up the road is our sister indoor skydiving facility. For those that are still unsure of whether freefall is for them, we suggest taking a trip to our indoor wind tunnel.

With the largest vertical wind tunnel in the United States, you can try out what freefall feels like before making an actual skydive. Although the experiences are not exactly the same, the simulated flight in the indoor wind tunnel closely mimics the sensation of freefall. Allowing yourself to “dip your toes in” with the tunnel before diving headfirst into a tandem skydive can help you mentally prepare for the experience!

5. Fuel Up In Advance

With your stomach in knots over your first tandem skydive, food may be the last thing on your mind. However, this is one of the most important tandem skydiving tips: be sure to eat before your skydive! It’s important to fuel yourself before the excitement of the day. Eat a healthy moderate meal before you head to the dropzone, and don’t forget to bring snacks to keep your energy up!

Once you’ve made your jump, you can enjoy a meal, and maybe even a cold drink, at our onsite full-service bar and restaurant, PK’s Grill and Pub!

Bonus Tip – Bring A Friend!

Skydiving is a journey that’s better with company! Bring a few friends or family along to make the jump with you or invite folks to be your ground crew. Having people to support you throughout the day can make a big, positive difference!

Now that you’ve got the skinny on our top 5 tandem skydiving tips, are you ready to fly? The adventure of a lifetime is just one click away.
