Downhill World Cup 2021: Rennen in Fort William soll ohne Zuschauer stattfinden
Sollte das Downhill World Cup-Rennen im schottischen Fort William stattfinden, soll es keine Zuschauer am Streckenrand geben – das gab das Organisationskomittee von Fort William gestern bekannt.
„Während wir uns alle verzweifelt eine Rückkehr zu den gewohnten Zuschauerzahlen in Fort William und der unglaublichen Atmosphäre, die sie schaffen, wünschen, ist die Realität, dass der Weltcup am 22. und 23. Mai trotz des Fortschritts der Impfungen und der geplanten Lockerung der Absperrungen nicht mit Zuschauern möglich sein wird“, heißt es in der Mitteilung auf der Homepage.
Damit das Rennen überhaupt stattfinden kann, werden laut der Meldung keine Zuschauer zugelassen – das Organisationsteam arbeite momentan mit UCI und den zuständigen Behörden zusammen, um die Veranstaltung ohne Zuschauer auf die Beine stellen zu können.
Zuschauer, die bereits Tickets gekauft haben, werden kontaktiert und können die Tickets entweder zurückgeben oder für das kommende Jahr nutzen, insofern das Rennen 2022 wieder regulär mit jubelnden Downhill-Verrückten stattfinden kann.

UCI Mountain Bike World Cup organisers today (4 March) confirmed that if the event takes place at Nevis Range, Fort William on the scheduled dates of 22-23 May, it will be without spectators.
“Whilst we all desperately want a return to the usual Fort William crowds and the amazing atmosphere they create, despite the progress of vaccination and planned easing of lockdown restrictions, the reality is that the World Cup on 22 and 23 May will not be possible with spectators in attendance.
Spectators have been at the heart of every World Cup and have made it the much admired Classic it has become. A closed event will never be the same – but as with every other sport, if the competition is to take place it must be under very different conditions.
We continue to work with the UCI and relevant authorities to find a way of running the World Cup behind closed doors but this still presents numerous challenges that are, as yet, unresolved.”
All existing ticket holders will be contacted separately. They will be able to claim a full refund or carry forward to 2022 when there will hopefully be a full return to normality and crowds cheering on the best riders in the World.
